I was invited to give a couple of workshops and a short keynote at the Education Scotland Higher CS conference.
The first workshop explored the importance of hidden mechanisms in the study of Computing and how pupils prior experience as consumers of digital technology doesn’t always help. It introduced two techniques to help develop this understanding, Peer Instruction and Mechanism Identification.
The second workshop looked at existing techniques to help novices visualise the hidden mechanisms and some of their limitations and introduced a new active learning technique called the Mechanism Visualiser to help strengthen novices understanding.
My keynote gave a brief overview of the PLAN C local hub programme, it’s importance and some encouragement to take part.
